  1. Inside is a lattice of about a thousand tiny jelly cells. Each one keeps its shape and volume; the skin you see is stretched over them.
  2. Neighbouring cells are tied by bonds. A bond that stays stretched past its limit for a moment snaps, and the next most stretched one takes the load, so tears run ragged.
  3. The knife cuts along the flat plane through your stroke and your eye: every bond that crosses it breaks at once, and both sides get a glassy face.
  4. After each break, a quick search over the remaining bonds finds which cells still hold together. Each group becomes its own wobbling piece.
  5. Smooshing presses two pieces together and ties new bonds across the contact, so the seam closes and it tears like one piece again.
  6. Every squish, rip and bloop is synthesised live from oscillators and filtered noise. No recordings.
✓Good as new. Nobody will know.
